Do I need to register with the card brands?
Cash-discount merchants are not required to register with the card brands, whereas surcharging merchants must register. AND handles registration on your behalf.
If you intend to surcharge, registration is required. Cash discounting does not require registration. But if you're required to register, don't worry! Before you are able to begin surcharging, Visa/MasterCard require a 30 day notice to both themselves, and your acquiring bank.
