What's a smart terminal?

Smart terminals have the same form-factor as a "standard" terminal, but offer upper-level features normally found in a POS.

Point of sale systems are attractive due to their feature sets and capabilities. Where they're less impressive is the price point! POS systems generally have much higher price points, which can make their purchase a challenge for many smaller merchants.

The solution is often a smart terminal - you get the benefits of a POS, but in the form-factor and price point of a standalone terminal. Smart terminals have touchscreens, Android-based operating systems, and cloud-based reporting. They allow merchants to manage inventory, employee logins, and integrate with third-party apps. AND's smart terminals are also P2PE, meaning that they have the highest possible level of security, and don't require quarterly PCI scans. Very nice!

If your business doesn't have the need for a true, full-functioned POS then a smart terminal can be a great way to bridge the gap. Our most popular model is the PAX a80 smart terminal, and you can see our whole terminal inventory here.
