Why choose a terminal over a POS?

Not all merchants need a robust POS system. If you require an in-person solution to accept credit cards at low rates without bells and whistles, a terminal is the right choice.

Point of Sale systems can be great - they're elegant, functional, and they can manage large establishments with ease. But not every merchant needs that much! Many smaller retailers don't want to manage their inventory on their POS. Or, they already have an industry-centric inventory management system that a POS can't replicate. It's also really common for merchants to sell only a few different types of services (for example: co-pays at a doctor's office, application fees, or deposits for housing). There are plenty of merchants who just need something... simple. Terminals are perfect for that - they let you accept every type of payment, but you aren't required to manage in-depth systems with logins, permissions, ongoing management, and more. Terminals "just work" and are designed to not be overly complicated. With costs that start at just $149, terminals are very affordable, too!

Another great reason to consider a terminal is that some terminals "bridge the gap" with Point of Sale systems by offering some of the more popular upper level features. These are called Smart Terminals. A smart terminal has the same small form factor as a standard terminal, and they typically still have relatively simple operating systems with low learning curves. But, they provide inventory systems, cloud-based reporting, and access to apps.
